I asked "The Exercise Doctor" Michele Olson, PhD, creator of the "Perfect Legs, Glutes & Abs" DVD and professor at Auburn University Montgomery (who has studied various forms of exercise extensively and publishe...

Have you decided to start exercising to lose weight? Good for you! After you’ve received clearance from your doctor to begin, the most important thing to focus on is just getting in motion! Start by walking or riding your bike around your neighborhood, and gradually build the length and distance of your session...

Did you just join a gym? Good for you! Group fitness classes can be a fun and effective way to get into an exercise program, but venturing into that loud, crowded room for the first time can be pretty intimidating!
As an instructor for the past ten years, I’ve seen many first timers take a class once and never come back. If you are just starting out, he...

Apparently elevating your heart rate for even as little as two minutes is enough to trigger mood boosting endorphins. So next time you are feeling anxious or stressed, walk up a few flights of stairs to feel better.

Women’s World Magazine reports that oxytocin (a calming, happy hormone) can help you stop stress eating in as little as five minutes. Scott Haltzman, M.D. told the mag, “a great way to kickstart the brain’s oxytocin production is to watch an engrossing documentary or read a book.” So next time that urge to eat a bag of chips strikes, grab a book instead (experts recommend doing this for 30 minutes a day for best results).
